Drawing from both the gameplay music and cinematic interludes, the album takes the best of the game’s soundtrack and presents it in an arrangement that I chose to follow the story told in the campaign missions.
The KW2B music was challenging and fun to compose because of the great diversity of instrumentation and styles I was able to employ throughout. Game producer Konstantin Fomenko has always been a fan of bagpipes, so we carried that over from the previous games in the series (including Dawn of Fantasy) where the human faction is represented musically by the Uilleann Pipes and fiddle. I wanted to give the elves a more otherworldly feel, so a number of unusual flutes, angelic vocals, and steel tongue drums (like the Hang Drum) became their sound. The orcs didn’t get anything so pretty, with rougher brass and male vocals, though there is still an artful side to their rough hewn culture.
By far, though, the tracks I most enjoyed composing were the filmic underscores that accompany the cinematic bookends to each mission. They let me explore some theme melodies for characters (Lothamir) and locations (Dagbor) that had more dramatic scope than the gameplay music allowed.
If you like big, bold fantasy music, check out the trailer and order the soundtrack![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”48620″ media_width_percent=”100″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
